London Airport - Heathrow in the 1960s and 70s : £17.95 : 60 minutes

Remember where it all began? On the roof terrace at a major airport; noisy, exciting, full of variety and interest. You may have started a lifelong passion for aviation at that moment, but today's airliners don't really match up to those early days, do they?

Now we can take you back in time, with the help of some enthusiasts' cine film, that has been digitally restored and matched to authentic sound. This production hasn't been made by filming a flickering projection screen. With a specialist 'Telecine' conversion process, also used by the BBC and by ITV, we can digitally transfer pictures direct from the film on to digital video tape. These can then be enhanced and edited as necessary.

We start in the 1960s with Viscounts and 707s everywhere, alongside Caravelles, DC8s, Britannias, DC7s, Comets and TU104s. The earliest shot appears to be in 1963, with more from 1964.

Highlights include BEA Herald, Lufthansa C46, Ghana, Swissair and MEA CV990s, the crashed TCA DC8, Aer Lingus Carvair, CSA and CPA Britannias, British Eagle and UAA DC6s. Alitalia, Dan Air and BOAC DC7s, UAA Caravelle.

The 1970s begin with early 747s, DC10s and Tristars. We've still got some 707s and increasing numbers of DC8Fs, plus Concorde and the last days of the Tridents.

Highlights include Pan Am DC10 & 737, Northeast Trident, Merpati Vanguard, National 747, Libyan 727, SAA 747SP.

Overall the variety is amazing. Let's just list the 707s: BOAC, PanAm, TWA, Air France, Lufthansa, TMA, MEA, Air Malta, El Al, PIA, Kuwait, Olympic, SAA, TAP, QANTAS, Montana [Austrian], Kenya, Air Mauritius, US Govt.

So, why not relive those memories today?

Comments from our customers ....

I have now received the great DVD: LHR in the 60's and 70's! The best collection of the "good old era" I have ever seen. Good work in restoration and sound assembling. Hoping for further releases.

Thanks very much for the London Airport DVD which arrived yesterday. To see (and hear) some of those images brought tears to the eye. It was like watching a re-run of my time as a youth on the roof terrace all over again. And yes, as stated on the DVD case, it was those times that spurred me on to build my own career in civil aviation. It's a work of art, and one that I shall recommend to many of my aviation friends, the quality of the images and clever sound track along with the rarity of some of the types and airlines featured make this DVD worth many times its weight in gold, I enjoyed every second. A big thanks to you and all the contributors concerned...Magic.

I am writing to confirm receipt of my order and I was thrilled to see the superb work. What memories it has evoked of days long gone when I was child hanging on to the fence watching the airplanes come and go at Lydd and up at Heathrow back in the 60’s. I swear at one point I could smell the Avgas !

I have just chain watched your ‘Heathrow in the 50’s-60’s’ and ‘Heathrow in the 60’s-70’s’. Absolutely marvellous, it’s just like seeing pictures of old friends long forgotten.

DVD formats explained

There are several different kinds of DVD available so here's a simple guide.

DVDs are 'pressed' from a master disc.

DVD-Rs are 'burnt' from a master DVD, just like copying one CD to another.

DVDs and DVD-Rs will play in any computer DVD drive [but not in a CD drive].

All our DVDs/DVD-Rs are 'region-free', so they will play anywhere in the world. However, if you're not watching your DVDs on a computer, you will need to ensure they are compatible with your national TV system. There are two main types; PAL and NTSC.

PAL TV is used in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and many other Commonwealth countries. PAL DVDs are therefore the obvious choice for those countries.

Because PAL DVD players will also play NTSC DVDs without any adverse effect on picture quality, DVDs that were filmed in NTSC are now released as PAL/NTSC DVDs, as the same format can be used world-wide.

NTSC TV systems are used in the USA, Canada, Japan and some other countries. If you have a multi-system DVD player, this will play either NTSC or PAL DVDs, and you should also buy our PAL DVDs and PAL/NTSC DVDs.

Most US DVD players are multi-region, not multi-system, and you will need to buy our NTSC DVD-Rs and PAL/NTSC DVDs.

Some early DVD players would not play DVD-Rs. If you buy a DVD-R from us and it is not compatible with your DVD player, we will provide a full refund, including your postage.

That's great value!
