Airport Action Anchorage

Get a detailed airside look at Alaska's amazing airliners at ANCHORAGE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

It's a refuelling stop for wide-bodied freighters crossing the Pacific and the freight ramps are often full of 747s, DC10s and MD11Fs.

It's the main air gateway to Alaska. Long-distance flights include China Airlines and Hawaiian. There are 160 domestic flights a day by Alaska Airlines, United, Delta,etc. Local carriers like Reeve Aleutian, Era Aviation and Pen Air all use propliners!

FedEx, Northwest Cargo, UPS and United Worldwide Cargo all have major cargo operations here.

It's the centre of regional freight services by two DC6 operators. Other local freighters include 727s, DC3, C46 Commando and a Caribou!

This high quality digital video was filmed entirely airside in 1999, with the full co-operation of the Airport Authority and numerous airlines. You even get to see inside a DC6, a C46 and an Electra! As usual, the sound is as good as the picture, vital when you're listening to a Pratt & Whitney R2800 backfire or a taxiing CV580.

Airport Action Fairbanks/Lake Hood


Our second airside look at airliners in Alaska takes in two airports - Fairbanks, just 200 miles from the Arctic Circle, and Lake Hood, adjacent to Anchorage Intl. and the World's largest floatplane base!

Just like Anchorage, Fairbanks also has its share of refuelling long-haul freighters crossing the Pacific on their way from Europe to the Far East, as well as being the focus of a range of services to remote communities in the Interior. For many of these, everything has to be flown in, including fuel - which means regular work for C46s, DC4s and DC6s operated by four different airlines!

Lake Hood is busy all day long as Beavers, Otters and other floatplanes carry anglers to fish distant lakes or bring in supplies to lakeside communities. We've got some superb film of these aircraft in close up action - as you can see from the samples shown here!

As with our Anchorage programme, this was filmed airside in 1999 with the full co-operation of the airport authorities and various airlines. Superb sound compliments the excellent pictures obtained by our Sony Professional digital camera equipment.

DVD formats explained

There are several different kinds of DVD available so here's a simple guide.

DVDs are 'pressed' from a master disc.

DVD-Rs are 'burnt' from a master DVD, just like copying one CD to another.

DVDs and DVD-Rs will play in any computer DVD drive [but not in a CD drive].

All our DVDs/DVD-Rs are 'region-free', so they will play anywhere in the world. However, if you're not watching your DVDs on a computer, you will need to ensure they are compatible with your national TV system. There are two main types; PAL and NTSC.

PAL TV is used in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and many other Commonwealth countries. PAL DVDs are therefore the obvious choice for those countries.

Because PAL DVD players will also play NTSC DVDs without any adverse effect on picture quality, DVDs that were filmed in NTSC are now released as PAL/NTSC DVDs, as the same format can be used world-wide.

NTSC TV systems are used in the USA, Canada, Japan and some other countries. If you have a multi-system DVD player, this will play either NTSC or PAL DVDs, and you should also buy our PAL DVDs and PAL/NTSC DVDs.

Most US DVD players are multi-region, not multi-system, and you will need to buy our NTSC DVD-Rs and PAL/NTSC DVDs.

Some early DVD players would not play DVD-Rs. If you buy a DVD-R from us and it is not compatible with your DVD player, we will provide a full refund, including your postage.

Not only are our postal charges some of the lowest in the UK, we don't charge any extra to ship DVDs to any destination worldwide.

The more DVDs you buy in one order, the lower the postal charges. Buy four or more and there is no postal charge at all. Buy five or more and we'll add Special Delivery or Priority Airmail at no extra cost.
